Big E's announced the closures to its Facebook page saying,

With the maximum occupancy remaining at 25% and no indication of when it will increase, we can no longer leave our laid off Team Members waiting in the wings for the hope that someday we can reopen. We hope that we can come back again at some point to serve you in some capacity, but are unsure when or how that will be.

The restaurant in Midland will remain open.

Those with gift cards can still use them at the Midland location and at Sharkee's Bar and Grill inside the Holland Hampton Inn. Big E's says they're working to accept them at additional locations soon.

According to the Holland Sentinel, Big E's is owned by Suburban Inns, which also owns several hotels in West Michigan, including the Embassy Suites downtown Grand Rapids, the Hilton Garden Inn on the East Beltline, and the Courtyard Marriott downtown Holland, and the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express on Felch Street in Holland.

Prior to the permanent closure, Big E's West Michigan locations had been temporarily closed during the pause on indoor dining enacted by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to slow the spread of COVID-19. Indoor dining was allowed to resume at 25% capacity February 1.

Big E's shared to Facebook at the end of January,

To our Holland and Grand Rapids Big E’s guests:
As most of you may know, restaurants can open at 25% capacity on Monday, February 1st, 2021. We feel that opening at 25% capacity wouldn’t allow us to serve our guest to the best of our abilities. Although we aren’t sure of an exact opening date for Holland, Downtown Grand Rapids, and East Beltline, we do hope that our loyal Big E’s fans will stick with us through this.
Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts, for all of your support during this time. We can’t wait to have everyone back in our restaurants!

In an updated executive order issued February 4, MDHHS extended the current restrictions on indoor dining through March 29.
