Bad News/Good News: Ford Museum ArtPrize Top 10 Art is Moving

Are you ready for a Bad News/Good News story?  Of course you are, so, here you go.

The bad news:  The Ford Presidential Museum is shutting down, along with the federal government.

The museum's non-essential employees will have four hours to access their desks Tuesday morning to make arrangements during their absences.

The Ford Museum is currently showing 25 ArtPrize entries, which officials say will remain in full public view. Four of those pieces are among the ArtPrize Top Ten, including "Dancing with Mother Nature" by Paul Baliker, "Polar Expressed" by Anni Crouter, "Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore" by Ann Loveless and "Uplifting" by Andy Sacksteder.

Both Crouter and Loveless' installations, are located inside the museum's main lobby.

The Good News:  Our news partner, WZZM TV13 reports the pieces  have been moved to a tent outside the museum building. Loveless previously purchased the tent to show her work at other arts and crafts shows.

Baliker and Sacksteder's pieces were originally placed outside the museum, on its grounds. The Ford Museum will continue to provide security to ensure all of the works are not harmed.

All ArtPrize programs scheduled at the Ford Museum have been moved to the Grand Rapids Public Library, located at 111 Library St. NE.

The museum will remain closed until Congress can reach a budget deal. The most recent government shutdown was December 1995, and lasted 21 days.
