Artist Chris LaPorte, winner of ArtPrize in 2010, is returning ArtPrize this fall with another large pencil on paper drawing.

In 2010, artist Chris LaPorte took home $250,000 after finishing in first place at ArtPrize with "Cavalry, American Officers, 1921" a large pencil on paper drawing which was displayed at Grand Rapids Art Museum.

LaPorte also entered "Funeral" in 2011 and took 10th place with "City Band" in 2012.

This year, Chris LaPorte returns with "Family Room; Lineage" at Women's City Club. The drawing is 14 feet wide and 9 feet tall.

The entry features LaPorte's ancestors.

The artist statement at ArtPrize.org explains the piece:

Family Room; Lineage is about time and line. I use line as a metaphor for how we are connected and how we may also be separated. This work is in many ways a memorial, a place to contemplate death--a difficult and often painful subject.

Looking forward to ArtPrize 2014!
