‘Amazing Race’-like Event Coming to Silver Lake on June 6
The Michigan Adventure Race: Silver Lake Edition is June 6.
The five-hour race requires running, biking, compass skills, paddleboarding, sandboarding and additional challenges.
The Michigan Adventure Race: Silver Lake Edition starts and finishes at Grace Adventures on Upper Silver Lake and will cover the entire Silver Lake area.
Two-person teams and individual competitors will set out running and biking to hidden checkpoints pre-marked on a map, collecting as many points as they can within the time limit. Map reading is critical and basic compass skills will be helpful.
Five-hour racers can use a mountain or road bike to get from one area to another.
There is also an eight-hour race. In the eight-hour race competitors must trek, bike and paddle to more difficult and distant checkpoint locations. Eight-hour racers must have a mountain or cyclocross bike.
500 racers are currently signed up for the races. Entry deadline is June 3.
“Silver Lake is an amazing place. By offering such a unique race in a unique place, we can offer a one-of-a-kind experience. The opportunity to camp before or after the race and enjoy a fun pizza dinner, awards, and raffle at Grace Adventures add to the experience,” says Michigan Adventure Racing owner, Mark VanTongeren.
A share of race profits and money from a charity challenge will go towards Grace Adventures' camper scholarship fund that helps kids with financial difficulties attend camp. Grace provides custom retreats, Christian summer youth and horse camps, as well as leadership and character training programs.
