The long streak of male births in the Schwandt family came to an end last Thursday, when little Maggie came into this world.

Rest assured, it will be very intimidating in the future when a potential suitor has to face Maggie's 14 protective older brothers. But until that day arrives, there is joy in the Schwandt household after the first girl in 15 births entered the family.

The former Rockford residents, who now live in Lakeview made news in 2018 when Kateri Schwandt gave birth to her 14th consecutive boy, named Finley.

It seemed like that might the last of it, but the couple, now 45, gave it one last try, and this time, got a little sister to break the string.

The family is featured on the reality TV show, '14 Outdoorsmen', which they live stream on their web page.

"My parents were finally blessed with the little girl they never thought they'd end up having," Tyler Schwandt, 28, the oldest of the boys told USA Today. "It's been about 12 hours since my dad told us, and I still haven't quite wrapped my mind around it."

The girl's name, Maggie Jayne, comes from mom Kateri's middle name, which is Margaret, and a play off of dad's name, Jay.

Maggie was born Thursday, November 5 at Mercy Health in Grand Rapids.

“This year has been memorable in so many ways, for so many reasons, but Maggie is the greatest gift we could ever imagine,” Dad Jay told the Detroit Free Press.

The Schwandt's began dating as high school freshmen in Gaylord, and were married shortly after graduating.

So are there plans for number 16? Well, in the interview the couple did with WOOD-TV 8, it sounds like they've reached their limit of children.
