2500 additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are available now in Kent County.

The best news communities get these days is when a new load of vaccines come to town to fight the coronavirus.

According to FOX 17, if you are 50 and older and have health issues that make you more likely to catch COVID-19, the Kent County Health Department say they have an additional 2500 doses that are available for March 12 and 13.

If you are wondering how and where can you get one of these vaccines, there are 8 clinics in zip codes 49503, 49507 and 49509 that will have these. Here is a short list where you could get vaccinated to today or tomorrow:

  • Friday, March 12 - New Hope Babtist and Godfrey Lee ECC
  • Saturday, March 13 - Cesar Chaves School

The Kent County Health Department submitted a proposal to a program that the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service put together called the Community Outreach Vaccine Project.

FOX 17 reported that the director of the Kent County Health Department Adam London said, "our team has worked very hard to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine as efficiently as possible. These additional doses will play an essential role in making sure we get our most vulnerable population vaccinated."

Health officials are focusing on those 50 and older in the African American and Latino communities. They are also looking to help those who are homeless, residing in a shelter or have mobility issues or impairments.

It only took two weeks for Kent County to receive these additional vaccines so look for more opportunities to get vaccinated from the county in the weeks and months to come.
