For the second straight season, the West Michigan Whitecaps are playoff-bound after they beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps 1-0 Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Starting pitchers A.J. Ladwig and Pete Kelich kept their opponents scoreless until the seventh inning, when West Michigan scored their only run on an RBI-single by David Gonzalez to take a 1-0 lead. From that point on, ‘Caps reliever Gerson Moreno had to make it stand, giving the Whitecaps their second straight shutout with a 1-0 victory. Due to losses by both the South Bend Cubs and Lake County Captains later in the evening, West Michigan clinches a spot in the Midwest League Playoffs to face the TinCaps in a three-game playoff series beginning September 9.
