Rumor: Another Pro Sports Team is Moving to Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids is a major minor league city. If there's a league outside of MLB-NFL-NBA-NHL there's a good chance they're playing in Grand Rapids. And now there's a hot rumor that another pro team is headed to town.

You know, of course, of teams like baseball's Whitecaps, the ballers of the Grand Rapids Gold, new soccer team and stadium under construction and even an inaugural pro volleyball team in the Rise.

The city also has fond memories of past glories like when the world's tallest basketball player balled for the Flight and a packed Van Andel Arena saw the city win the 2001 world championship in Arena Football when the Grand Rapids Rampage hung 64 points on a team from Nashville in ArenaBowl XV.

There are growing rumors that Rochester Knighthawks are on the move to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The K-Hawks have fielded a team in Rochester since 1995.

Should Grand Rapids become home to a transplanted Rochester squad, it would mark a return of the National Lacrosse League to Michigan after a 30 year absence. The Detroit Turbos played in the NLL. The Turbos played 6 seasons in what was then then known as the Major Indoor Lacrosse League from 1989 to 1994 and won the MILL championship in 1991.

Lacrosse is a surprisingly popular sport as it's the 3rd highest attended arena-based sports league in the world following the NBA and NHL.

Should Grand Rapids become home to pro lacrosse, they'll likely play in the NLL eastern division with rivals from Buffalo, Atlanta, Philly, Long Island, Albany, Toronto and Halifax.
