Former Summit Pointe CEO Charged With Spending $510,000 in Public Funds on Fortuneteller

The Michigan Health Care Fraud (HCF) Division has charged Ervin Brinker, 68, of Delton, with two counts of Medicaid Fraud Conspiracy and one count of Embezzlement by a Public Officer, all ten-year felonies.

Brinker was the CEO of Summit Pointe in Battle Creek until his termination by the Board of Directors on February 17, 2015.

2014 Michigan Deer Hunting Harvest Down 15 Percent

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has issued a report on the 2014 hunting seasons. It says that roughly 615,000 hunters statewide harvested a total of approximately 329,000 deer. That's a drop of 15 percent from 2013.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently found several red swamp crayfish near a popular fishing area at Lake Macatawa in Ottawa County.

Red swamp crayfish are native to the southeastern United States and are considered an invasive species in Michigan. It is illegal to possess them alive in Michigan.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expecting more people to stay at Michigan state parks for the July 4 holiday weekend this year than did in 2014.

Weekend occupancy was projected at 92.7 percent for the holiday weekend as of June 30, compared to 88.6 percent at the same time in 2014.
