Shopping Downtown Grand Rapids Could Net a New Year’s Eve Prize Package

Ah, Christmas shopping. The hustle and bustle of it all.

I'm pooped just thinking about it.  Which, by the way, I'm going to start my Christmas shopping any day now.

It seems that thousands are at the malls working their way from store to store, all the top chains open and gladly accepting your money.

But what about something local?  What about shopping at the locally-owned shops of Downtown Grand Rapids?

Downtown Grand Rapids once was the destination in West Michigan.

But as malls grew, shoppers moved.  Downtown Grand Rapids had to re-invent itself.

Schuler Books To Close Their Downtown Grand Rapids Location

Schuler Books, who currently own and operate three stores in the greater Grand Rapids area, will soon be closing their downtown location, according to owners Bill and Cecile Fehsenfeld. The store's lease will be coming up for renewal soon, and the owners have decided not to renew it for their space on Fountain St. (inside of the Steketee building).

Tragedy in Downtown Grand Rapids

It's a sad, somber time in downtown Grand Rapids as someone lies dead on a sidewalk.

A man fell, or possibly committed suicide by jumping, from the Ottawa/Fulton Parking ramp early this morning, sometime we believe between 7 and 7:30 a.m.

Paramedics, and Grand Rapids Police worked on the man for quite awhile to no avail.

Buffalo Wild Wings Will Open In Downtown Grand Rapids

Buffalo Wild Wings is expected to land in the former Taps Sports Bar in downtown by fall.

The restaurant and sports bar, known for its wide variety of flavored chicken wings, expects to close a deal to purchase the building at 8 Ionia Ave. SW within three weeks, said Kent Ward, president of Shelby Township-based franchise group JK&T Wings.
