The West Michigan Chalk Art Festival brought children, artists and spectators to Byron Center on Friday and Saturday for the sixth annual event. View some of the work on display over the weekend.

ArtPrize has announced ArtPrize 2015 will feature 1,649 artists from 48 countries and 42 U.S. states for a total of 1,554 entries.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has confirmed Michigan's first West Nile virus activity of 2015.

The third and final $5,000 ArtPrize Pitch Night winner of 2015 was awarded at the Indianapolis Museum of Art on Wednesday night. "Whisper", a 70-foot voice-activated table setting by Emily Kennerk, was the winner and will be featured on the second floor of 250 Monroe at ArtPrize 2015.

The first year of ArtPrize featured 1,262 entries, last year there were 1,537 and the all-time record was set in 2010 with 1,713 entries. This year's 2,085 registered entries is not final, but 2015 could reach a record number.

ArtPrize Pitch Night opened its third year last night in Minneapolis. The program awards artists from outside of Michigan with $5,000 and a prominent place to display their art at ArtPrize. A work featuring sculptural piñatas, "Constructing on Deconstructing" by Carolina Borja and Amy Toscani, was named the winner at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

Today, Michigan voters decided if the state sales tax would be increased from six percent to seven percent. Voters in Byron Township, Caledonia, East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills, Grand Haven, Hudsonville, Kentwood, West Ottawa and other communities also had issues on the ballot. Results are in.

ArtPrize has announced the 2015 panel of jurors for the Grand Prize and Category Awards. A total of seven jurors have been announced which includes a panel of three jurors for the Grand Juried Prize and jurors for the categories of 3-D, Time-Based, Installation, and Venue. The 2-D juror will be announced at a later date.

Today, Kelly Clarkson announced a 36-city tour which will start on July 11 in Hershey, Pa., and ends Sept. 20 in Camden, N.J. The tour will also include at stop at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston on July 26.

The Michigan Attorney General's Office is warning consumers to be cautious when choosing a health club in the new year. In 2014, the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division received 61 complaints from Michigan consumers against health clubs and fitness centers.
