For the past four years, ArtPrize has been easily among the most anticipated events in Grand Rapids.

ArtPrize is 2½ weeks in late September and early October celebrating art with thousands of people visiting from aross the country for the public art competition.

Alas, following the announcement of the winners, the displays are taken down and other events take its place.

I don't know about you, but I always find myself feeling a bit empty when it's over.  It's such a big build-up to the event and a virtual party downtown during ArtPrize weeks. Then, it's back to reality.

That's about to change somewhat.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum just opened the "GRAM Selects ArtPrize 2013: Encore" exhibition, which will be on display through Oct. 12, 2014.

Our news partner, WZZM TV13, reports this is the second year for the exhibition that underscores the significance of ArtPrize with selected highlights from 2013.

During ArtPrize 2013, the GRAM's curatorial team explored the entries on view and selected 15 works with a strong resonance to other works in the museum's collection.

The works have been placed throughout the museum in context alongside closely-related works the museum's collection. The exhibition features works of art from nine venues, and includes painting, drawing, watercolor, photography, sculpture and textile art.
