Local theater is always great in Grand Rapids.  And that trend continues with Circle Theatre’s, Circle Presents! (a subsidiary of Community Circle Theatre).  They’re  presenting six curriculum-based, theatrical performances between October 2012 and April 2013. The performance groups that Circle Theatre has contracted are award-winning, national companies that specialize in productions for young and family audiences.

Starting off the season in October of 2012 is the “Mathmatical Musical” BY THE NUMBERS, running October 22 & 23, 2012 at the Gerald R. Ford Museum, with daily performances at 10am and 12:30pm. This curriculum-based production featuring the Chicago company, Face To Face Productions, is recommended for grades K-5 and will be presented in collaboration with the Gerald R. Ford Museum. Ticket price for the performance includes admission to the museum and its’ exhibits. This musical comedy tells the tale of how Albert Einstein uses his Theory of Relativity to travel through time to help his distant 10-year old Eddie Einstein explore the fun you can have with math.

The second play of the season is the musical revue IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE & OTHER STORIES. This show, based on popular children’s books, will be presented on November 29 and 30, 2012 at Grandville High School Auditorium at 10am and 1pm daily and features the award-winning company Theatreworks USA. This sparkling musical is recommended for grades K-4.

In January, Circle Presents will collaborate with the Gerald R. Ford Museum once again to present THE GEORGE WASHINGTON FOLLIES by Face To Face Productions. This presidential musical comedy will run January 23 and 24, 2013 at the Gerald R. Ford Museum, with daily performances at 10am and 1pm and takes place in 1789-the inauguration day for the first President of the United States: George Washington. Join George as he encounters other historical leaders and explores the qualities that make a great leader and becomes better able to understand how to lead a nation of the people, by the people and for the people. This show is recommended for grades 1-6.

On February 25 and 26, 2013, Circle Presents with Theatreworks USA, will present FREEDOM TRAIN on February 25, 2013 at East Kentwood Fine Arts Center and on February 26, 2013 at Forest Hills Fine Arts Center, with daily performances at 10am and 12:30pm. This inspiring story, featuring music of the period and recommended for grades 3-9, tells the remarkable tale of Harriet Tubman who was born a slave and became the Moses of her people.

In March, Circle Presents along with Theatreworks USA, will present THE CIVIL WAR on March 21, 2013 at 10am and 1pm at Grandville High School Auditorium and on March 22, 2013 at 10am and 12:30pm at East Grand Rapids Performing Arts Center.
This stirring production, for grades 3-9, features traditional songs of the Civil War era while sensitively illustrating this complex, tumultuous chapter of American history.

In April, Circle Presents and Artspower will feature THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD EARNS HER WHISTLE at East Kentwood Fine Arts Center on April 23, 2013 and at Aquinas Performing Arts Center on April 24, 2013 with daily performances at 10am and 12:30pm.
