Civic Theater and Circle Theater Offering 2 Great Shows at 2 Great Theaters for 1 Low Price

A new season for the West Michigan Symphony opens later this September.

Broadway stars Jenn Gambatese and Michael Seelbach will join the West Michigan Symphony on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22, at 7:30 p.m. to open the 2012-13 season with a tribute to the ’80s.

Auditions Being Held for West Michigan Youth Symphony

If you're a young, aspiring musician, pay attention.  The West Michigan Youth Symphony and Music Director/Conductor Daniel M. Meyers are seeking musicians for the 2012-2013 season.

They are holding open auditions Tuesday, Aug. 28, beginning at 5p.m. at Muskegon Community College.  All orchestral instruments are welcome and encouraged to audition. Students with at least one to two years of experience through college sophomores who are members of school music ensembles are eligible to participate.  Scheduled auditions are required.

Exciting New Art Work Unveiled in Downtown Grand Rapids

The UICA’s national-award-winning ArtWorks Youth Program unveiled a new mural at 106 South Division! Led by local artist Erwin Erkfitz, twelve of the ArtWorks student participants from area schools designed and painted the mural on a wall at the Avenue for the Arts. This student-created first phase of the mural was unveiled to the public in a ribbon-cutting ceremony along with ArtWorks student artists and representatives from Avenue of the Arts and ArtWorks program sponsor Herman Miller.

The West Michigan Symphony is out to reach you.  Yes, YOU, Mr. "I'm not going to the symphony" person.  They're presenting two free outdoor concerts on Thursday, Aug. 23, in Fremont, and Friday, Aug. 24, in Spring Lake, both starting at 7 p.m.

The concerts will feature compositions by such popular composers as Bartok, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, patriotic favorites such as "The Star Spangled Banner" and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and selections from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake Suite."  And, remember, they're FREE!

Civic Theatre’s Summer Repertory Program Producing Shows

The Summer Repertory Theatre program from The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre is presenting Ramona Quimby and Schoolhouse Rock LIVE, July 27-August 5 in the Meijer Majestic Theatre as part of the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre School of Theatre Arts’ Summer Repertory Theatre (SRT) program.

The Summer Repertory Theatre program is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn theatre.  The program emphasizes training in the entire spectrum of theatre-related skills, from acting, to set and costume design, back-stage production, publicity, and more. Youth are selected for the program through an intense audition and interview process.  Members involved with the program range in age between 14-19 years.

The Summer Repertory Theatre performances of Ramona Quimby and Schoolhouse Rock LIVE, conclude the 2011/2012 season.
