Your Voice Could be Part of An Art Prize Installation
Everyone has a story - and part of yours could be part of ArtPrize.
As Wood TV 8 reports, a mother and son team from West Michigan is seeking public responses for their ArtPrize entry: Before You Go, an audio-based art installation about life, death, and the things in between.
Monica Pritchard and Christian Reichle have been interviewing people across the country for months. Pritchard tells Wood TV 8 that the idea was born from her work running a law firm and her interactions with elderly clients,
I kind of fell in love with the clients and realized that a lot of them are wanting to share their story but not necessarily feeling comfortable sharing that story or feeling like anyone really wants to hear their story.
Their goal is to get input from people across all ages and backgrounds through interviews that focus on themes of intergenerational connection, mortality, missed opportunities, isolation, and introspection.
Reichle tells Wood TV 8,
Our real goal is to encourage people from all generations to have some of those conversations that we wish we would have well before it’s time to go.
Selections of interviews from participants will be edited into a final piece of audio that can be heard through a refurbished vintage phone booth on the Blue Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids during ArtPrize 2021.
Given concerns about COVID-19, people will also be able to listen to the project through a hotline number on their own phones.
If you'd like to participate, you can set up an interview here or call 1-888-665-2036 and leave a message. You'll be asked 2-3 questions and the interview will take less than 30 minutes.
ArtPrize runs September 16-October 3, 2021.
