Whitecaps Beercheese Poutine Chosen Best New Food in Baseball
The West Michigan Whitecaps had one of the best seasons in franchise history on the field, this past season, but it is an off-the-field star that is now being recognized.
Remember earlier in the year when the Whitecaps had their yearly food contest to see which suggested food item would make it to Fifth Third Ball Park? Well, after thousands of votes, Beercheese Poutine was the winner in the Whitecaps eighth annual Fan Food Voting contest. And now it's become the BIG WINNER of baseball park food, taking the title of “Best New Food Item,” according to Ballpark Digest. That is in ALL of baseball, minor and major league. Quite an honor.
Beercheese Poutine was nominated by Muskegon native Rusty Morningstar. It's a combination of pulled pork, bbq sauce, beer cheese and green onions served over waffle fries. Oh my. It was so loved by the fans, that it will definitely be back next season.
Ballpark Digest said there was one other food item that attracted plenty of attention in 2017, and and they decided to recognize it with an honorable mention.
This year, the Seattle Mariners introduced toasted grasshoppers to their menu at Safeco Field. At a ballpark long known for its unique food items, the toasted grasshoppers became a hit with fans, selling out before first pitch on numerous occasions.
Okay, ah, no. I'm sticking with Beercheese Poutine!
