Whitecaps Asking for Food Ideas

Ahhh, the wonderful taste and aroma of Spam Fries.  Nothing like it.  Seriously, nothing like it because it didn't make the cut.  I thought they were delicious!  Go figure.

Hey West Michigan Whitecaps fans and foodies everywhere.  It's that time of the year again.  We get to suggest some new additions to the Whitecaps menu.

It began yesterday where fans can submit their ideas regarding what new food items they would like to see served at Fifth Third Ballpark this summer.

This is the fifth year that food ideas submitted by fans will find their way onto the Fifth Third Ballpark menu. The first year a couple of sandwiches, the Cudighi Yooper Sandwich and the Declaration of Indigestion, made the cut. The second year the fans took a different approach with the ultra healthy “Chicks with Sticks” (celery, carrots and hummus dish) and last year’s winner the Baco (a taco shell made of bacon), made national news a must-have item for fans attending a game.

Whitecaps Director of Marketing Mickey Graham said. “It’s going to be especially interesting to see what they will come up with considering the recent fire.  Last year we introduced the ‘Squeelin’ Pig, the spiciest sandwich served at any ballpark, and I think there will be several creative entries surrounding a hot theme.”

Submissions will be taken through Tuesday, February 4. They can be made through the Whitecaps facebook page (facebook.com/wmwcaps), twitter account (@wmwhitecaps) or via e-mail at playball@whitecapsbaseball.com. All submissions should be accompanied by a complete description and a picture, if possible.

The suggestions will be whittled down to approximately 10 finalists, and starting Tuesday, February 25, fans will be able to vote for their choice for the new 2014 concessions item. Voting will take place on the Whitecaps website, www.whitecapsbaseball.com. The winning entry will be on the menu for all fans to enjoy.

The Whitecaps open the 2014 home season on Tuesday, April 8 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:35 pm. Season and group tickets are now on sale; individual tickets will go on sale in February.
