Whiskey Isn’t Just A Boys Club: Women And Whiskey Event Comes To Grand Rapids
Whiskey isn't just for cowboys and business men, and while whiskey drinking has always felt like a boys club. Times are changing, because whiskey is for women too.
In fact, women make up nearly 40% of whiskey consumers, according to a recent study by MRI-Simmons. So the boys club of whiskey drinkers isn't quite as male dominated as we once believed.
And with this week being the anniversary of prohibition, it seems like a perfect time to celebrate women and their place at the bar.
This week you can head to the Margaux at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids to join in on their “Women Who Whiskey” series.
The first event is called “Romantic Mixtures,” and will be held from 7-8pm on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids (235 Louis St. NW). If you can't make the first event, you can catch additional events “From Garden to Glass” and “Backyard Memories” which are currently scheduled for March 17 and May 19.
The Series is being hosted by an expert from the home state of Bourbon Whiskey, Greta Harper. She is a part of the team at Maker’s Mark, and she will share the history of the popular spirit and its distilling process.
Greta also plans to teach guests the best practices for drinking whiskey and share whiskey-centric cocktail recipes “to impress family and friends during any occasion.”
The Women Who Whiskey title isn't just an event, it's a club and a movement.
According to their website, Women Who Whiskey is "both for amateurs and connoisseurs. Women Who Whiskey is a global women's networking and educational organization, dedicated to creating a space where our members can cultivate their passions for community and whiskey. With a focus on inclusion, Women Who Whiskey o create an educational and experimental environment for those who have all-too-often been left out of the traditionally male-dominated world of whiskey."
