Where to Watch Free Outdoor Movies in Grand Rapids This Summer

Looking for something fun to do outdoors this summer? And free is never a bad thing, right? Well, there are a bunch of movies you can watch outside in Grand Rapids this summer, with the the kiddos, for date night, or guys/ girls night out -  for free!

Grand Rapids Public Library Launches Movies on the Lawn Series in 2022

New this summer, the Grand Rapids Public Library is partnering with Wealthy Theatre on an outdoor movies series.

Not only are the movies free, but GRPL is offering free refreshments and a take-home craft for the kiddos!

Movies will be shown on Fridays, June 17, July 8, and August 5, 2022, at the Yankee Clipper Branch.

GRPL's Movies on the Lawn runs 7:30p.m. to 10:30p.m. The movies will start at dusk for best visibility, so some events may run a bit later.

Here's the schedule of movies:

• June 17, 2022 - Encanto
• July 8, 2022 - Raya and the Last Dragon
• August 5, 2022 - Moana

East Grand Rapids Movies in the Park Returns in 2022

You'll also be able to catch flicks outside in East GR's Movies in the Park series, on the shores of Reed's Lake!

The movies are showing on Friday nights at John Collins Park. It's free to attend, and the movies start at dusk.

The City of EGR also says attendees should note alcohol, barbecues, grilling, and open fires are not allowed in John Collins Park, and all dogs must be on a leash no more than six feet in length.

• July 8 - Despicable Me 3
• July 22 - Dora and the Lost City of Gold

Sunset Cinema Back at Studio Park Downtown Grand Rapids

If you're looking for more "adult" movies, hit up Sunset Cinema at Studio Park! A change to the outdoor movie series this year - it's free!

Sunset Cinema is held in the piazza at Studio Park on Saturday nights throughout the summer.

Seating is first-come, first-served, and guests should bring their own lawn chair or blanket. You can bring your own food or concessions are available. Find answers to frequently asked questions here.

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks Movies in the Parks Series

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is hosting Movies in the Park along with Grand Rapids Public Schools, Padnos, and the City of Grand Rapids Office of Special Events.

Grand Rapids' Movies in the Park Schedule 2022:

• Space Jam 2: A New Legacy - June 25 at Gerald R. Ford School at 851 Madison Ave. SE
• Encanto - July 15 at Roberto Clemente Park at 546 Rumsey St. SW
• Sing 2 - August 20 at Camelot Park at 2230 Rowland Ave. SW

Each Movies in the Park night will start at 7p.m. with games, music, and recreational activities for all ages. The movie will start dusk.

According to Wood TV 8, the first 150 people at each Movies in the Park Event will get free food from Daddy Pete’s BBQ, and there's a limited quantity of popcorn from Robinson Popcorn and soda.

In case of rain or severe weather, Movies in the Park will be canceled.
