West Michigan Wal-Mart Stores Will Soon Change Their Names

It’s a change that’s pretty much already happened, but a lot like when you get married, it’s becoming official on all the paperwork.

For a few years now the retail stores have been using the “Walmart” name, but if you remember back to the old blue and grey stores, it used to be “Wal-Mart” or even "Wal*Mart". Actually, if you go to Bentonville, AR, where the company headquarters is located you’d see a sign that says “Wal-Mart Stores Inc.”, so in reality, the corporate office has decided to match the store look with one consistent name.

USA Today reports that as of February 1^, 2018, the official legal name for the entire corporation will simply be “Walmart” with no hyphen.

Walmart CEO and President Doug McMillon told USA Today,

“While our legal name is used in a limited number of places, we felt it was best to have a name that was consistent with the idea that you can shop us however you like as a customer. As time goes on, customers will increasingly just think of and see one Walmart.”

In reality, this shows how much Walmart is actively competing with Amazon for online shopping and not necessarily in a store.  It’s hard to believe, but true, there are now some people who shop at Walmart but have never been or no longer go to an actual store.

Walmart officials say that other than the name change in a few places (again mainly corporate) nothing will really change for the customer.
