Even in the middle of a pandemic, crimes continue to occur.

West Michigan police warn that thefts from vehicles are on the rise under the Stay at Home order.

Walker PD said in a Facebook post:

With so many people staying home, it means a lot of cars left parked for long periods of time.

Because of this, many law enforcement agencies have seen an uptick in larceny from vehicle cases. Almost all vehicles were left unlocked when targeted.

Here are some tips they share:

  • Lock your vehicle
  • Take valuables with you or keep them out of sight in the trunk
  • Park in a well-lit area, video monitored if possible

The Grand Rapids Police Department also mention robberies from vehicles in a post about crime awareness during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Kent County Sheriff's Office, during one evening last weekend, more than 10 vehicles in a single neighborhood were broken into. All the vehicles were unlocked.
