Want to protect Michigan's natural resources and serve the public?

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is hiring conservation officers.

According to the DNR, the hiring process includes a written exam, physical fitness test, in-depth background investigation, and a psychological assessment and medical evaluation.

Once hired, trainees will attend a conservation officer academy that runs more than 20 weeks, followed by 18 weeks of field training, and an additional 4-5 weeks of specialized training in the areas of marine, off-road vehicle, fish and game, and waterfowl enforcement.

Applicants must:

  • Be able to lawfully possess a firearm in Michigan.
  • Be a United States citizen.
  • Be at least 21 years of age before graduation of the academy.
  • Become a resident of the State of Michigan before completion of the Probationary Training Program.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
