On Monday we speculated that vaccine requirements and Covid-19 testing could soon come to fruition in West Michigan, and now it appears that is the case and could start as soon as this month.

Jason Isbell, who is scheduled to play at DeVos Performance Hall on August 26th, tweeted out on Monday that he would require venues to screen concertgoers for vaccinations or a negative Covid test:

When contacted about this report a representative from ASM Global & DeVos Performance Hall had this to say:

We would encourage fans to check the event page on the Van Andel Arena or DeVos Performance Hall website for any protocols that may be specific to the event that they’re attending. This information is being updated on a regular basis as we continue our ongoing communications with tours coming to our venues in the coming weeks.

As of this writing, there has been no addendum on the event page about the vaccine or Covid testing requirements.

Meanwhile, the Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids has announced that in light of the increasing case count and the Delta variant, they will be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test to attend shows. Fox 17 is reporting that in order to attend Get Sad: Another Emo Night on August 14, Lokella on August 20, and Mustard Plug on August 27, attendees must show their COVID-19 vaccination card or show a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event.

Live Nation, the concert promoter that also runs GLC Live at 20 Monroe, has also announced that they will allow artists to dictate whether or not shows can be 'vaccine only'. In an internal memo by Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino, he notes that the model has already proven effective at this past weekend's Lollapalooza:

...artists doing shows with Live Nation in the U.S. can require all attendees and staff to be fully vaccinated or show a negative test result for entry, where permitted by law. We believe this is a great model, and we have already implemented this successfully at many major shows including Lollapalooza...we hope these measures encourage even more people to get vaccinated. That is the number one thing anyone can do to take care of those around them and we are encouraging as many shows as possible to adopt this model.

So the private sector is appearing to speak loudly, and they're saying that things will only move forward when safety precautions, such as vaccination and testing, are taken to protect the public and performers.
