The thing about drugs, especially in the early trials, is how safe are they?  What are the potential side effects?  Do the benefits outweigh the risks?  What if you could take a breast cancer drug that would slow the progress of very advanced cases from becoming worse?  It would seem to me that that would be worth the risk.  Over the summer I interviewed a 32-year-old woman who lost her mother at the age of 32 to breast cancer.  Ever since she was a young girl she was vigilant about mammograms.  She had an oncologist on call since 18 years old, her screenings were negative, her genetic testing was negative BUT, she was so certain something was wrong she continued to pursue it, doctor after doctor.  It was confirmed.  She recently had a double mastectomy.  Sheila had a feeling, took responsibility for her own health, acted on it until someone finally listened to her and it saved her life!

If you know someone battling an advanced stage of breast cancer please share this with them...
