It's happening all over the country and sadly Grand Rapids is no exception.  In many years past, there were so many who donated toys for "Toys For Tots" and now those same people are on the other side.

Catherine Behrendt from WZZM 13 and Take Five & Company has spearheaded Toys For Tots for years.  This year, 2011, some of those same people who donated are now in need of donations.  They are the ones who need help to put a Christmas toy under the Christmas tree.  Why?  Because they too have now fallen on very difficult times.  It's true, no child should be without a present to open on Christmas morning.

I like to look at these situations as a wonderful opportunity to teach children that Christmas is not only about getting, but even more so, about giving.

There are hundreds of location all over Grand Rapids where you can drop off a new, unwrapped toy; because, even one toy can make a child's Christmas morning.  Think about that for a moment.  Just one Christmas present can help make a child believe again.  Please do something, whatever you can, big or small.  It doesn't need to break you financially, and it will make a child smile on Christmas morning and that, that is priceless.
