I've often said that dogs are smarter than a lot of people. This dog seems to prove my case.

He's pretty leery of this fake rat Halloween decoration. Is it a friend? Is it a foe? Can I eat it? 

I can imagine the thoughts going through his head right now:

"It doesn't move... but it looks like another animal... Maybe I should bark at it!"

"Hmmm... barking didn't work. What else can I do?"

"Lemme smell it! *sniff sniff* It smells like a toy, but it doesn't look like a toy."

Poor puppy.
