What a fantastic year for the Detroit Tigers. After a very slow start, they came alive, gelled as a team, made it to the Wild Card playoff series against Houston, swept the Astros 2-0 and now move on the the ALDS, the division championship.

They are a Michigan fan favorite for sure, and becoming a national fan favorite as well. So, of course, their TV contract has to be cancelled.

Fox17 reported that Bally Sports, part of the Diamond Sports Group that owns the regional sport network, said it will drop several Major League Baseball teams in 2025 including the Tigers.

That seems to be a brainless act and makes no sense at all for a team just hitting their stride and maybe, just maybe, (so you're saying there's still a chance), on their way to the World Series.

Fans everywhere are scratching their heads on this one. Sure, maybe few people were tuning in at the early part of the season, but lately, and certainly now with this exciting run, to drop a team that everyone in Michigan will be excited to watch next season seems silly. Regional TV ratings had to be through the roof. High ratings translate into high dollars. So, where's the beef!

It's in Bankruptcy Court, according to the Detroit Free Press!

"Diamond, a subsidiary of Sinclair Broadcast Group that operated the Bally-branded regional sports networks, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2023. It was ordered that spring to pay four MLB teams 50% of unpaid media rights fees that were owed to them. Since Diamond is filing for bankruptcy, it can assume and reject certain contracts during that process."

Major League Baseball was totally caught off guard as well, and is scrambling to see what can be done.

All may not be lost next season for the Tigers however, since MLB has taken over broadcast contracts of other teams after they were dropped.
