I did a story on the Morning Show this morning about "winter blues."  That's because, here in West Michigan, we have very little sunshine during the late-fall and winter months.  A lack of sunshine can really be depressing.  Some suffer so severely that they're diagnosed with a disorder called SAD, (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and it can be debilitating.

Valkee to the rescue.  In an article in TechCrunch.com, they reviewed Valkee's interesting little device.  At first I was skeptical, but thought that it sounded wacky enough that it would be a funny story.

Well, guess what?  It seems to work!

The device looks like an iPod, only the earphones emit white light rather than sound.  It promises instant relief from SAD.  You literally 'stick-it-in-your-ear' to feel happy!

They have backed this up by scientific research by the University of Oulu, Finland, that seems to suggest the brain may be photosensitive. The University says the brain gets more stimulation from light delivered through our ears  than light delivered through our eyes.  Okay, a little weird, but they say it works, and, if worn for 8 to 12 minutes a day you won't be SAD, you'll be happy!

That's good news!  However, the bad news is you can't get it in the U.S. yet.  Oh, great, more winter blues!  Aaaarrrrggghhhh!

I would think we won't have to wait too long.  Where 'profit' is in the picture, companies always find a way.
