If you're planning on being cooped up indoors in the AC all day today then venture into the night tonight!

The Water Lantern Festival, which is put on across the U.S., is in Grand Rapids tonight (6/30) at Millennium Park in Walker. It's a family-friendly event where people get to design their own lanterns before letting them float off into the water. The point is to bring people together and inspire hope.

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and in addition to decorating lanterns, there will be entertainment, vendors and booths to stop at, and food trucks will be on site. The lantern launch will be sometime between 9:30 and 10p. It's encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to the event.

Tickets are still available for purchase and can be done here. Part of the price of a ticket goes to removing the lanterns from the water and cleaning any trash in or around it. To ensure this is eco-friendly the lanterns are made from rice paper and wood.
