The Lion King touring Broadway show is bringing a sensory-friendly performance to the West Michigan area!

Sensory-friendly opportunities for people on the autism spectrum and anyone with sensory sensitivities are slowly becoming more common. Sensory-friendly showings of movies are growing. Special events are also increasing. There's even a newly-designed trail in Ottawa County made especially for families with autism.

Even with the increase in opportunities some kinds of events remain rare. That includes the opportunity to see a touring Broadway show in a sensory-friendly environment.

A special performance of The Lion King is coming to Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing on Saturday, July 21 at 2:00 p.m. This will be the first time there has ever been a sensory-friendly performance of a touring Broadway show in East Lansing.

Sound and lighting will be adjusted at the performance. There will also be quiet spaces, activity areas, places to stand in the theater and places to move around in the theater. Earplugs and noise-canceling headphones will also be available.

It's a great and rare chance to enjoy an award-winning Broadway performance in a comfortable environment for people with sensory sensitivities. Hoping to see this trend continue!
