In the 1960s and early 1970s, you'd be able to find over 130 drive-in theaters in the State of Michigan.  50 years later, we only have 9 drive-in theaters left in the state.  The first dive-in theater was opened in Harper Woods in 1938, 4 years after the first drive-in in America opened.  By 1959 the number of theaters had ballooned up to 127 throughout Michigan.

In the mid 1970s, the number of drive-ins had begun to decline and by the 1988 Michigan only had 62 theaters left, half of theaters had closed in a decade's time.  Now only 9 remain scattered throughout the state.
