Back to the Future

In addition to returning to theaters and releasing a premium Blu-ray box set this fall, Back to the Future will also celebrate its 30th anniversary with a pretty big celebration. Today comes news of some exciting plans to help fans further celebrate the release of one of the best films of all time — there’s just one catch: it’s all taking place in Los Angeles.

With 2015 being the year Back to the Future II envisioned as the future, everyone is looking to celebrate what the future of 1989 was supposed to look like. Earlier this year, Nike announced they’d be releasing a version of Marty McFly’s self-lacing Air Mags. And now, Lexus may have one-upped them, releasing a teaser video revealing a sneak peek at an actual working hoverboard.

One of the most iconic parts of Back to the Future is the time traveling DeLorean. But, in earlier versions of the story, the DeLorean was nowhere to be found. Originally, Marty McFly was going to back to the 1950s in a refrigerator! And, instead of being powered by plutonium, it was powered by a nuclear explosion and Coca-Cola. Get ready for even more facts from the future in the latest installment of You Think You Know Movies!

It's almost surprising at this point that there has not been a 'Back to the Future' reboot or sequel. When you look back at the popular and successful properties of the 80s, there are few that haven't been modernized. Sony is practically falling all over themselves to get a new 'Ghostbusters' in theaters. This year alone saw new 'RoboCop,' 'Muppets,' 'Ninja Turtles,' 'Jump Street' and 'Transformers' movies. But, despite the frequency of these remakes, it doesn't look like you'll ever see a new 'Back to the Future' movie. And, that's a pretty great thing.

Actor, filmmaker and author Crispin Glover is returning to the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts for a one-night engagement next month. Glover visits for a Sunday performance at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at UICA, 2 Fulton St. West in Grand Rapids.

Remember the Delorean?  You know, the stainless steel car created by John Delorean.  I think it was every man's dream car.  It was sweet, and ever since the movie Back to the Future came out...that was the car, in case you didn't know...there has been a huge demand. The problem is, only 9,000 were made before the DeLorean Motor Company went bankrupt in 1982.
