New, Authentic Mexican Fast Food Restaurant Opens in Grand Rapids Area
Want a quick bite that's not the usual burger and fries? A new, authentic Mexican restaurant serving tacos, chilaquiles, tortas, flautas, birria, and more has come to the Grand Rapids area.
Tacon Madre Opens in Wyoming, Michigan
Tacon Madre (which means “mother of all tacos”) is located at 3501 S. Division Ave. in Wyoming.
Grand Rapid Business Journal reports that the authentic, Mexican fast food restaurant (with a few surprises tossed in!) began its soft opening phase at the end of June.
Martha Hernandez owns Taco Tadron with her significant other, Leoe Vasquez, a graphic artist who also owns Outlaw Roasted Corn food truck. You can see Vasquez' art on the walls at the new restaurant.
Hernandez tells GRBJ they're waiting to announce a grand opening until they've had time to listen to their customers and respond to requests.
Currently Taco Madron is open for dine-in (counter service) and drive-through customers 11 a.m.to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Food at Taco Madre in Wyoming
According to GRBJ, Hernandez began cooking career at home, making food and selling it to friends and family. She honed her craft by enhancing old family recipes with tips learned by watching hours of cooking videos on YouTube.
Hernandez grills the carne asada and chicken, and her birria is a blend of three different types of meat that is slow cooked in spices for seven hours.
I feel like birria is super popular right now, so if you love it, Tacon Madre has some delicious-sounding, unusual dishes I'm eager to try!
- Birria Pizza - Layers of flour tortillas, beef cooked birria-style, melted cheese, cilantro, onion, with consume on the side for dipping.
- Birria Ramen -Birria Mexican-style shredded beef, Japanese ramen, onion, cilantro
Additional meats served at Tacon Madre include pork, chorizo, steak, and shrimp, which you can get in tacos, tortas, burritos, flautas, fajitas, and more.
Pictured below is Chilaquiles (fried corn tortilla pieces) with Arrachera (Mexican skirt steak).
Tacon Madre also serves Churros with ice cream and Aguas Fresca, which are light, fruity, non-alcoholic drinks.
