‘Shoe Year’s Day’ Brings Free Guided Snowshoe Hikes to Michigan
Michigan's unpredictable winter weather is bound to bring us more snow. When it does, be prepared to join one of nine upcoming snowshoe hikes being planned by the Michigan DNR.
The hikes are scheduled to take place across Michigan from New Year's Eve through January 8. Hikes are being planned in Middleville and Ludington, but if lack of snow becomes an issue, there are more opportunities further north.
- Maybury State Park Dec. 31 at 10am
- Island Lake Recreation Area Jan. 1 at 1pm
- Waterloo Recreation Area Jan. 1 at 11am
- Yankee Springs Recreation Area Jan. 1 at 1pm
- Ludington State Park Jan. 7 at 6pm
- Rockport Recreation Area Jan. 7 at noon
- Sleeper State Park Jan. 7 at 6pm
- Straits State Park Jan. 7 at 5pm
- Mitchell State Park Jan. 8 at 1pm
All hikes are free, but a Recreation Passport is required for vehicles entering state parks. Most locations will have snowshoes available to rent.
