Scrumptious Cakes and Sweetery does not yet have a storefront location, so Dessert Wars is a chance to set up shop for a couple of hours and share its creative sweetness.

Its owner, Betsy Denham, is bringing some Scrumptious-made deliciousness from her incubator kitchen at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market to the Thursday night event at Amway Grand Plaza hotel's Ambassador Ballroom in Grand Rapids.

"I am still deciding" what to bring, Denham told Channel 95.7's "Connie and Curtis." "I'm considering something with prickly pear.

"I don't know if you've ever had anything with prickly pear. It's intriguing. It's like raspberry meets watermelon meets something delicious."

Scrumptious is among about a dozen sweetness makers from Grand Rapids and across West Michigan taking part in Dessert Wars, presented by Channel 95.7 and Hobart Corp. Running 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Amway Grand Plaza, located at 187 Monroe Avenue NW, admission is $8 and children younger than 9 years old are $2 with tickets available at the door. Admission includes 15 sample tickets, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Grand Rapids non-profit Kids' Food Basket.

For her Scrumptious visit ahead of Dessert Wars, Denham brought blackberry and wine cupcakes. And, yes, they had some red wine in them.

The non-traditional bakery -- in business since March 2013 -- does deliveries and catering; and its goods can be picked up by appointment at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market, 435 Ionia Avenue SW.

Scrumptious' all-gourmet cupcake menu includes basic, cocktail, seasonal and specialty varieties, Denham said.
