Oh, man.  I can't imagine how I'd feel if this happened to one of my "boys."

"Sam" and his master were out for a walk, when his owner decided to take Sam off leash just for a minute.  The dog decided he wanted to go for a swim, ran down steps into a river and was immediately swept away in a strong current.

What made it REALLY bad was this river had concrete barriers on either side, so the dog had nowhere to climb back out.  All he could do is tread water because there was no way out.

Someone called 911 and summoned the fire department.  The owner and onlookers shouted out encouragement to keep Sam dog paddling until he could reach a small patch of land, where a firefighter grabbed him.

I would've been a wreck.  Or maybe dead because I would've jumped in to save him...and I swim like a brick.

Once Sam was back on land, he shared some "barks of thanks" to the firefighters.

Whew.  Grab the tissues...
