If you were a fan of the solid blue or solid black Michigan license plates of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, you might get a chance to put one on your current car.

Michigan Senator Mallory McMorrow is reintroducing a bill to the State Senate that would allow the Secretary of State to issue two retro license plates.  The retro plates to be offered are the black license plates used between 1979 and 1983, and the blue plates used from 1983 until 2007.

“Classic plate designs give Michiganders the ability to celebrate our unparalleled car culture while offering a creative way to generate much-needed revenue to help fix our roads without raising taxes.” Sen. McMorrow said in a statement regarding the retro license plate bill.

The plates would cost an additional $100 and that money would go to the state's transportation fund and used mostly for road repair.  Sen. McMorrow cites California as an example to follow, when they offered a retro plate themselves and it quickly becoming their most popular vanity plate and raised millions of dollars for the state.

The current license plate is pictured below and has been available since 2013.

The solid black and solid blue license plates that would become available as an option are pictured below.  It is unclear if the date on the solid black plate would be 2021, or if you could pick a date between 1979 and 1983.
