Does Anyone Actually Pronounce Battle Creek as Battle Crick?

An interesting discussion and poll came up recently on the "You Know You're From Battle Creek When..." Facebook group. They were looking for a definitive answer to the correct pronunciation of the city - is it Battle Creeeek or Battle Crick?

Crick is a variant of creek originating in the U.S., where it reflects a dialectal pronunciation of the word for a small, shallow stream. Crick might be nonstandard, but it is established enough to be considered an alternative form, and it is even listed in some dictionaries. In writing, crick is often used to create a rustic tone.

Since the city of Battle Creek is named after the waterway, could it be possible to refer to the stream as Battle Crick while the city is Battle Creek?

Does it Depend on Age?

On the Facebook discussion, older generations are credited with saying Battle Crick. Moms, dads, grandmothers and aunts are credited with using the term crick.
