Police in Muskegon Heights are searching for a man they say brutally assaulted a gay teen Saturday, November 4 near Edgewood School.

Police say that 18-year-old Trevon Lee Godbolt first assaulted a 17-year-old male, and then forced the teen to strip naked. Video of the assault was later posted to social media.

In the video, Godbolt can be heard repeatedly saying derogatory things to the teen about being gay as he beats him.

Police believe that Godbolt is the person who carried out the assault, but they are also searching for another male who is believed to have recorded video of the incident, and two females who can be heard yelling "catch him" as the teen ran away nude following the attack.

The prosecutor's office has authorized charges of unarmed robbery and unlawful imprisonment against Godbolt. The prosecutor's office looked into charging Godbolt with a hate crime, but Michigan currently does not have a statute that covers assault based on sexual orientation.

There is a $500 reward for information leading to Godbolt's arrest.

Anyone with information about Godbolt's whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Silent Observer, (231) 72-CRIME. Tips also can be left on the website www.silentobservermuskegon.com.
