Here's a tip to create a really great Thursday night, like, tonight. Combine early jazz, ragtime, country blues and Western swing! What do you find with all of that? A Pokey LaFarge concert!

Tonight is the Acoustic Cafe Series at St. Cecilia Music Center (SCMC) with Pokey LaFarge. Tonight's concerts begins at 7:15 with opening act Jack Grellem with Pokey LaFarge hitting the stage at 8:15 pm.

In an interview in January, LaFarge revealed that he would be debuting his newest album, Manic Revelations, with music never heard before for St. Cecilia Music Center’s audience. “This will be the first time that we will perform music from Manic Revelations, and we’re excited about this new fresh sound,” says LaFarge.

LaFarge has played Grand Rapids in the past, but “it’s been a while” he says. When asked what he likes especially about Grand Rapids he responded, “...The beer, the lake, the architecture, Baxter the dog, and the Pyramid Scheme.”

With everything including the kitchen sink is his shows, his expansive musical vision and vivid storytelling sensibility are totally his own.

There are still good tickets available for tonight's concert. They're only $30 and $35, and can be purchased by calling St. Cecilia Music Center at 616-459-2224 or visiting the box office at 24 Ransom Ave. NE. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.scmc-online.org.

A post-concert “Meet-the-artist” reception with a cash bar will be offered to all ticket-holders giving the audience the opportunity to meet Pokey LaFarge and obtain signed CDs of his releases.
