Plans to demolish the former Grand Rapids Press building at the corner of Michigan St. and Monroe Ave. have been approved.

At a meeting of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, Michigan State University stated that they will begin taking down the building this spring. They hope to complete new construction of a research facility by the end of 2017.

MSU acquired the building in 2012 and plans to demolish the building were agreed upon by the MSU trustees in March.

The committee approved moving ahead on the redevelopment of the former Olds Manor which is across the street from the MSU site.
