It’s Illegal to Have These Animals as Pets in Michigan
Pets are a part of most of our lives, dogs, cats, birds, and even rabbits and other small critters.
However, did you know there is a Michigan law that says there are 9 animals that are illegal to own as a pet.

The law says it is illegal to own a pet not native to America. And one of those illegal-to-own pets is a dog! Well, it's sort of a dog.
It is called a Wolfdog!
Wikipedia says a wolfdog is a canine produced by the mating of a domestic dog with a gray wolf, eastern wolf, red wolf, or Ethiopian wolf to produce a hybrid dog.
Why would you want to own this dog? Some people just want exotic animals, but, no, no, not in Michigan.
What about other so call pets you cannot own in Michigan?
Well, Lions, Tigers and Bears come to mind. Oh my!
I can go see them in the John Ball Zoo, but I sure don't want to see them walking in my neighborhood or my backyard.
According to sister station WITL, it's also illegal to own a:
Jaguar
Panther
Leopard
Cheetah
Cougar
Okay then, good by me!
But, guess what? You won't believe the animals that ARE LEGAL to own in Michigan according to Gander Newsroom. For instance:
Artic Fox
Bobcat - if you have a permit to hold game in captivity.
Mink
River Otter
Coyote
Skunk
Sugar Glider
Opossum
Not my cup of tea! For me, just give me a good old regular dog and I'm happy!
