New Vegan Ice Cream Shop Now Open in Southwest Grand Rapids Area

Tastefull Vegan Desserts Opens in Wyoming

Grand Rapids Business Journal reports that Tastefull Vegan Frozen Desserts is open for business as of May 30 at 2265 Porter St. SW.

Owner Kalene McElveen grew up in Detroit where she says,

I spent more time reading food labels than Nancy Drew novels because of my diet. It was not popular in the early 90s to be a vegetarian and the choices for a vegetarian that didn’t eat eggs was even slimmer.

Her mom worked hard though to make sure she had delicious meals she could eat. McElveen says,

Growing up around friends and family I began to empathize with those who weren’t able to enjoy foods that they loved because of food allergies. Whether the food restriction is by choice or not, I believe that no allergy, dietary lifestyle choice, or anything should prevent you from being able to enjoy one of life’s greatest joys. Ice cream! That’s why I created Tastefull Vegan Frozen Desserts.

According to GRBJ, McElveen McElveen began working in GR's Downtown Market’s incubator kitchen in 2020, and first started selling her products at the Fulton Street Farmers Market in spring 2021. Her products can also be found at local grocery stores like Harvest Health and Bridge St. Market.

Tastefull Vegan's new storefront in Wyoming is open Friday through Sunday, 3p.m. to 9p.m.

What Frozen Treats Can You Get at Tastefull Vegan?

Desserts at Tastefull vegan are made without dairy, nuts, soy, gluten, eggs, and refined sugar. Products are made with Michigan maple syrup and an assortment of fruits and/ or coconut.

At the new dessert shop in Wyoming you'll find freeze pops, frozen dessert bars, and soft serve ice cream, including:

• Strawberry Lemonade Freeze Pop -  Tart lemon and sweet strawberry, sweetened with a touch of maple syrup.
• The Magnificent Bar - Creamy vanilla coconut ice cream, topped with salted caramel, dipped in dark chocolate sweetened with maple syrup.
