Much Of Southwest Michigan Under Red Flag Warning
The National Weather Service of Grand Rapids has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 8 p.m. Monday, April 22nd. The combination of dry conditions, gusty winds, and warm temperatures will lead to an increased wildfire risk this afternoon especially north of a line from Holland to Mount Pleasant.
The counties included in the Red Flag Warning are; Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Muskegon, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. The combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildfire. Camping, outdoor grills, smoking materials, chainsaws and all terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a spark and ignite a dangerous and destructive fire.
Burn restrictions are in effect for some areas. For more information on burn restrictions call the Michigan DNR 866-922-2876.
The good news is the fire danger is not expected to linger. Showers and a few thunderstorms are possible later into Monday evening.
