After a close game, the Michigan State Spartans defeated the Michigan Wolverines in a 27-24 upset.  And, in typical Michigan State fashion, students gathered in Cedar Village and proceeded to light things on fire.

In what has become an all too familiar scene at Cedar Village in East Lansing, couches burned as students chanted obscenities against the University of Michigan.  It doesn't always have to be couches and it doesn't always have to be a victory over U of M, but most big games that Michigan State finds themselves in will result in a disturbance in Cedar Village.

As you can see in the video, not many students were wearing masks during the disturbance.  Now, East Lansing Mayor Aaron Stephens is saying that this gathering may manifest into significant COVID-19 community spread.  The Lansing State Journal reported that Stephens said "All of the work, all of the effort can go down the drain because of one big event like this happening." in regards to the efforts the city has done to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Despite all of the negative light brought on Michigan State University by a small population of students on Saturday, the Spartans should be proud of their football team.  This was the first time that Michigan State has beaten the Wolverines and brought home the Paul Bunyan trophy since 2017.  And it is the first time that a first year head coach has beaten MSU rival U of M on the road since Nick Saban did it in the '90s.
