Did you see the video of that young kid falling from a Boston subway escalator? Of the countless stupid and careless things I remember doing when I was young, I am surprised this kind of thing didn't happen to me. Way back in the day, Detroit's Olympia Stadium had an escalator that traveled from the ground floor to the top of the upper balcony. Must have been eight, ten stories high....longest escalator I've ever seen. As kids we would slide down the aluminum portion of the escalator...you know, that flat, silver section on the other side of the rubber handrail. We'd travel at wildly fast speeds. Fun, yes. Stupid, maybe. Dangerous? Absolutely.
