Michigan’s Largest ‘Luxury Laundromat’ Set to Open in Grand Rapids Area
Want to do your laundry in luxury? A new "upscale laundromat" is coming to Alpine Avenue.
Wood TV 8 reports that Sheldon Cleaners is planning to open "The Laundry Room" in Comstock Park this spring, which they say will be the largest of its kind in the state.
The new laundromat will be at the site of the former Pier 1 Imports at 3909 Alpine Ave. NW, which closed in February 2020 and has been vacant since. Sheldon Cleaners purchased the approximately 10,000-square-foot space this past summer for $1.8 million, Wood TV 8 reports.
What Makes It an Upscale Laundromat?
The Laundry Room will have lounge areas, an indoor-outdoor fireplace, and a drive-up laundry drop-off area. The 53-space parking lot will include electric charging stations, and if you get hungry while doing your laundry, there will be vending machines for snacks, drinks and coffee.
According to Wood TV 8, the facilities will include laundry carts, folding stations, and dozens of front-loading washers and dryers. Customers can also opt for wash-and-fold service done by store employees. You'll get sent a notification when your laundry is done.
The Original Luxury Laundromat Concept
Sheldon Cleaners has 25 locations in West Michigan. They opened their first "upscale" Laundry Room concept at 3000 Breton Road SE about five years ago. That space includes a full service cafe, free wifi, 17 flat screen HD TVs, a children's play room -- and more upgrades are coming. Updates to the Breton Road location will be completed next month.
