If you're a Michigan worker currently making minimum wage ($8.50/hour), you can expect a small bump in your paycheck in the new year.

Workers earning minimum wage will earn $8.90 per hour starting on January 1, 2017.

This is the third stage in raising minimum wage in Michigan. A piece of legislation was passed in 2014 (when minimum wage in Michigan was $7.40), that aims to increase the minimum wage to $9.25 per hour by 2018.

The final stage in the minimum wage increase will occur on January 1, 2018 and will bring the minimum wage in the state to $9.25 per hour, which is two dollars more than the national minimum wage of $7.25.
