Michigan Travel Videos from the Past
It's fun to look back and see how our state of Michigan was promoted in the past.
I found some old travel videos that were produced to encourage tourism in the "mitten state".
This 1949 Chevrolet sponsored tourism video includes scenes including the car ferries, Holland's Tulip Time Festival, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and some of Michigan's beautiful west coast.
And then there is this video from about the same time, roughly 1950. It's a Technicolor movie that was directed, written and narrated by James A Fitzpatrick.
A few years later, in 1953, this movie was made about vacationing in Ludington...
Oh how times have changed. Here is a Pure Michigan tourism video from a few years ago...
I love traveling our great state. From the beaches of the Great Lakes, to the far reaches of the Upper Peninsula, back to the south in the Lower Peninsula. We are so fortunate to live in such a great state for tourism.
For more travel information, be sure to visit the Pure Michigan website. You can also see their Pure Michigan television commercials, narrated by Tim Allen, on YouTube.
Another great travel and tourism resource is Dianna Stampfler's Promote Michigan website.
Growing up, my father had a Super 8 movie camera. There were some vacations around the state of Michigan where he would film our adventures. I'm in the process of converting those old film over to digital files. I'll have to see if I can find any of our family vacations from the past, and if I find any, I'll post some of those. That should be good for a laugh or two!
