It is alleged the thief used the card to get the door unlocked, and then left it on the floor.

Note to self: if you use a debit card to jimmy a lock open, pick it up and put it back in your wallet.

That's the lesson an Alpena man found out.

Acoording to ClickOnDetroit, the crime happened last Halloween, when James Tanner broke into  a home on French Road in Alpena Township.

A woman returning to the home recognized Tanner coming out of the home, and yelled at him, but he fled. Police later found his damaged credit card by the front door with his name on it.

Tanner is currently being held here at the Kent County jail on other charges, he was arraigned from that jail on Friday and will return to court in Alpena on March 23.
